How-to guides
Start a job
- Tap START. It uses the equipment, field and guidance shown under the button.
- Tap the sliders button next to START to change any of them first.
Set an A-B line
- Drive to the start of your first pass and tap Set A.
- Drive straight for at least 10 m (33 ft), then tap Set B.
- Parallel lines appear one implement width apart. The line is saved with the field.
- No time to drive it? In Setup, pick Field edge or type a Bearing such as 352.4.
Add a field
- Menu → Fields → +.
- Create manually (tap the corners on the map), Walk perimeter, Circle, or Import a GPX, KML, KMZ, GeoJSON or Shapefile.
- Tap + on an edge to add a point; tap a point to curve or delete it.
Use an iPad as the display
- Put the iPhone and iPad on the same Wi-Fi (a phone hotspot works).
- iPhone: Settings → GPS Sharing → Send. iPad: Settings → GPS Sharing → Receive.
- Allow Local Network access when iOS asks. The iPad shows Connected.
Improve accuracy
- Mount the phone high, near the windscreen, with a clear view of the sky.
- Watch the GPS chip: the number is the current accuracy in metres or feet.
- For sub-metre passes, connect an external GNSS receiver and choose Settings → Positioning → External GNSS.
Read it in bright sun
- Settings → Sunlight mode swaps the glass cards for solid black with white outlines.
Frequently asked questions
What is GPS Tractor?
GPS Tractor is an iPhone and iPad app that turns your phone into a tractor guidance display, with A-B lines, a light bar, live coverage maps and field records. You mount the phone in the cab, set a line, and the app shows how far you are off the line in metres or feet.
Do I need a GPS receiver or any other hardware?
No. The app works with the iPhone's own GPS. If you want tighter passes, you can add an external GNSS receiver that shares its position with iOS Location Services, then switch Settings → Positioning to External GNSS.
How accurate is phone GPS for field work?
In open sky an iPhone usually reports 2 to 5 metres of accuracy, and the app shows the live figure on screen (for example "Phone · 2.8 m"). That is fine for spraying, spreading, mowing and tillage with wide implements. For sub-metre passes, use an external receiver. Neither is a substitute for RTK auto-steer when you need centimetre rows for planting.
Does it steer the tractor?
No. GPS Tractor is a guidance display for manual steering. You steer; the light bar, the arrow and optional voice prompts tell you which way and how far to correct.
Which guidance patterns does it support?
Straight A-B lines, set four ways: drive from A to B, pick a field edge, type a bearing, or set A and let the app work out the heading as you drive (marked Approximate on phone GPS until you set B). Lines are saved per field, so next season you start already locked on.
Does it work without mobile signal?
Guidance, coverage and job recording use the phone's GPS and don't need mobile data. Satellite imagery has to load from the internet, so open the field once while you have signal.
Which file formats can I import and export?
Fields import from GPX, KML, KMZ, GeoJSON and Shapefile. Fields and jobs export to the same formats plus a PDF work report, and the season report also exports as CSV.
Can I use an iPad as a bigger screen in the cab?
Yes. Send GPS to iPad streams the iPhone's position to an iPad on the same local network, so the iPad runs the cockpit on a larger display while the phone stays near the window for a clear sky view.
How much does it cost?
GPS Tractor is free to download, and every feature is unlocked in version 1. There is no account to create.
What happens to my field data?
Fields, lines and jobs are stored on your device and synced to your own iCloud account, so they appear on your iPad too. Anonymous usage analytics never include coordinates, boundaries or field names.
When can I download it?
GPS Tractor is coming soon to the App Store for iPhone and iPad (iOS 17 or later). Email support@tractor.landlens.pro if you'd like a message on launch day.
